COVID-19 Update: Mexico Deems Alcohol NON-ESSENTIAL
In an announcement late yesterday, the Mexican government published an update that only non-alcoholic beverages are to be considered essential products. In effect, all breweries, distilleries and wineries will be required to shut down and no alcoholic beverages will be shipped. There is a significant lobby working to overturn this decision including the major tequila and beer companies. Albatrans Mexico is reporting that there is also work to obtain a Judicial Protection to keep warehouses open and operating even if production of new product must stop. Goods already in transit are expected to continue to move to final destination.
We will keep you posted as this situation evolves, but as of right now, the alcoholic beverage industry will fall under the Ministry of Health "stay home" order for non-essential business. Should you need further details or a copy of the official announcement, please let us know.
