Dwell Fee at LA/LB Postponed Again

Another postponement has been announced for the new container excess dwell fee applicable to containers waiting for pickup at the port of Los Angeles/Long Beach. The new implementation date is now set at 12/27/2021, but whether or not that date will hold remains to be seen. Port Authorities continue to cite gradual improvement in container movement, thus the reason the fee has yet to be implemented since it was originally introduced back in November. Since LA/LB first announced this additional charge, other West Coast ports have followed suit. Oakland Port and Seattle/Tacoma have also implemented additional container storage charges, the idea being that it will act as an incentive to get cargo removed from the ports as quickly as possible.
