Global Events Update - July 9th
- Hurricane Beryl – The Port of Houston and Galveston will remain closed today as they assess the damage from Hurricane Beryl. The Port of Corpus Christi is open and scheduled for normal operations today as they did not face any significant damage from the storm. The heavy rains, strong winds and flooding from Beryl have led to widespread power outages throughout the state. Many remain without power but the efforts to restore power and clear debris are underway despite the challenges. We will continue to provide updates on the ports as they become available.
-Strikes in Germany – The strike by the Ver.di union over wage negotiations began today and is planned to continue until July 11, causing major disruptions at the Port of Hamburg. The closure of the port to large ships has affected approximately 18 incoming ships with additional complications and delays expected for ships attempting to leave the port.
