Government Avoids Shutdown!
The Senate passed a one-week stopgap measure today to avoid a government shutdown that would have commenced at midnight tonight. While we were hoping that the funding bill would include other items, such as COVID relief and CBMA passage, it is much better than a shutdown and allows for additional time for discussion on other items that could be added to a funding bill.
Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has also stated that lawmakers may need to work between the Christmas holiday and the end of the year, thus adding more time for other bills and tax extenders. There is a great deal of momentum behind the CBMA update and we remain optimistic that it will get done before year end.
