Latest Port Updates on Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew continues to move toward the U.S. Southern East Coast and ports are preparing for the worst. Now a Category 4 storm, winds of over 140mph are expected and President Obama has declared a state of emergency in Florida. Evacuations are underway as the storm - already blamed for over 100 deaths in Haiti - approaches the coast. Below are the latest updates and press releases for Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina ports. 

Port Miami

USCG Captain of the Port has established Hurricane Port condition ZULU for PortMiami. Port Tunnel is closed. Cruise passengers should contact the lines directly for the most up-to-date itinerary changes.

Cargo Terminals will remain closed until further notice.

Jacksonville Port

Oct. 5, 2016

Effective 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port has established Port Hurricane condition ZULU for the Port of Jacksonville.

JAXPORT marine terminals will close Thursday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. due to the expected impact of Hurricane Matthew.

Cargo inquiries: Please check back when the port resumes normal operations following the storm.

Port Everglades

Broward County's Port Everglades is closed to all ship and truck traffic. The Port will reopen after the storm, once all safety and security protocols are in place and approved by the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port, in conjunction with the Strategic Weather Advisory Team. Port users will be notified when it is safe to resume business operations.

No cruise ships are scheduled until Saturday, October 8. Cruise passengers should consult their cruise lines for any changes in sailing schedules.

Port of Charleston

Based on the latest forecast and expected conditions, the South Carolina Ports Authority will resume normal operating hours at all terminals on Thursday, October 6, including normal gate hours beginning at 6 AM for the Wando Welch and North Charleston Terminals.

Motor carriers should of course monitor road conditions for any closures / lane reversals that may impact normal access routes to port facilities.

Georgia Ports

The Georgia Ports Authority continues preparations for heavy rains and sustained storm force winds.
Gate and field operations will continue through 1800, Thursday, 10/6/2016. If operating conditions should change, we will provide immediate updates.
Please be advised, Port of Brunswick terminals are closed to all work activities until Monday, 10/10/2016.
Port of Savannah terminals will be closed to truck traffic on Friday, 10/7/2016, and Saturday, 10/8/2016, at Garden City Terminal and Ocean Terminal.
The U.S. Coast Guard will restrict vessel arrival and departure transits this evening, 10/6/2016.
Vessel activity is expected to resume at 1300 Sunday, 10/9/2016. (Please be advised, this is an estimate only, subject to change due to storm conditions.)
GPA may resume normal operations on Monday, 10/10/2016, if conditions allow. Garden City Terminal will resume container truck gate operations 0600 Monday, 10/10/2016, through all interchange gates, if conditions allow.
The port is monitoring developments to ensure safety of personnel, equipment and cargo.
