Major French Unions Headed for Truckers' Strike

A number of French unions have announced strikes for this month.  Truck drivers belonging to the CGT and Force Ouvriere, France’s second and third largest unions announced they will start a rolling strike on September 25th.   The strike is brought forth following the French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe moving ahead with a bill that would affect pay and working conditions that would continue to enforce France’s strict labor laws. Two additional unions have also called for strikes on September 18th, 2017.

Some officials with the Freight Transportation Association fear they will target ports, which in turn will affect both haulers and trippers. As of today, it was business as usual, and ports were left alone.  Although it’s still early to determine to what extent this strike could have on freight operations, it is best to prepare that this could lead to blocking of “strategic” sites such as fuel depots and other necessary venues that are needed for freight operations to run normally and efficiently as they have been.
