Mexico Update: Tequila Essential!
Better news from Mexico following their announcement late yesterday that alcohol would be deemed non-essential with the COVID-19 regulations. Enrique Alfaro, the Governor of Jalisco, just announced in a press conference that the Tequila Industry is considered essential since it is closely related to the agriculture industry, therefore all operations are to continue as usual with no penalties applicable to the distilleries in Jalisco.
These same regulations should be applicable to Mezcal in Oaxaca; however, as the Mezcal industry is controlled by different state, we are awaiting official news that this is the case. The larger breweries in Mexico are continuing to work as usual and applying the same argument as was used for the tequila industry. We will keep you updated on this issue as soon as we receive more information.
