Snowstorm Interrupts NE Port Operations

Winter Storm Niko is expected to hit the Northeast Wednesday night and continue through the day Thursday. Philadelphia, New York, and Boston are all expected to receive between 4-12 inches of snow and high winds. At this time Philadelphia Port has announced no closures. However, the Port of NY/NJ and Port of Boston have both sent out notices of closures and delays that can be found below.

Port of NY/NJ

Due to the impending snow storm, all container terminals, empty and chassis depots will be CLOSED on Thursday February 9th. Free time will be extended for containers not already in demurrage. Per diems on containers and chassis will be handled in accordance with the Winter Weather Plan.

Gates will be extended this evening as follows; Maher (9PM), RHCT (7PM) and GCT Bayonne (7PM). Pleas plan to fully utilize these additional hours.

Additional information about Friday's opening will be distributed tomorrow afternoon. Appointments WILL NOT and required on Friday at GCT Bayonne. Monday February 13th is an ILA holiday. Terminal schedules will be shared tomorrow as well.

Port of Boston

The current weather pattern is predicted to drop 8 to 14 inches of snow, depending upon your location, in the Boston region tomorrow. We are also anticipating high winds and dropping temperatures. Although flurries may begin as early as 5am, the time period of 9am to 5pm will see the most accumulation. The timing of the storm makes a terminal closure seem likely. Stay tuned for details.
