West Coast Port Fee Increases
This fall fee increases will come to the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and Oakland. An announcement from the West Coast MTO Agreement (WCMTOA), advised on September 1, 2024 the Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF) will increase by 6% at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The new fee will be $37.71 per TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) or $75.42 for all other size containers. Some containers are exempt from the TMF, these include empty containers, import or export cargo that transit the Alameda Corridor in a container and is subject to a fee imposed by the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority, transshipment cargo, empty chassis and bobtail trucks. The TMF helps cover the cost of extended gate hours. The TFM increase is in line with the increase in the longshore wage and assessment rates which increased recently with the contract between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association.
Additionally, the port of Oakland announced on November 1, 2024 the gate fee at the Oakland International Container Terminal (OICT) will increase from $40 to $45. This is due to the continued rise in operational costs.
To summarize:
- September 1, 2024: TMF at Los Angeles and Long Beach Ports will be $37.71 per TEU and $75.42 for all other sized containers
- November 1, 2024: Port of Oakland gate will increase to $45
