Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey to Texas Ports
The US Coast Guard continues to restrict ship movements at major Texas ports as Hurricane Harvey proved itself stronger than anticipated and brought along with it unprecedented flooding. Texas ports are still recovering and most remain closed in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. With severe weather anticipated through Thursday, the US Coast Guard predicts ports will re-open once channels appear to be safe and travel can resume. Port of Houston appears to have escaped Hurricane Harvey with minimal damage; however, the port remains closed through Wednesday of this week. Travel to and from will be restricted as the weather and rescue efforts throughout the week will make it difficult to resume a normal schedule. As of Tuesday morning, reports were showing light to medium damage to warehouses along the coast, but flooding is widespread and rain is expected to continue through Thursday. The unprecedented flooding is expected to disrupt freight transportation for many weeks to follow as clean-up could be a slow process. We continue to keep Houston and all of Texas in our thoughts as they continue to get through one of the US Gulf Coast’s strongest hurricanes to date. As always, if you have questions about any of your shipments in the area, please email us!
