Cape Town Port Update

Our offices in South Africa have passed along positive news regarding operations at the Port of Cape Town. Following intense efforts of improvement, the operations of the port have significantly normalized despite the challenges faced by the Covid-19 pandemic. This normalization of operations has resulted in increased cargo movement as well as drastically reducing delays.

Current operational status at the port includes:

All marine pilots have returned to duty and 100% of marine resources back at work.

Two-tug operation and one tug on standby. One pilot boat, one work boat, in addition to one launch boat active.

Two berthing gangs

No vessel delays

10 dockings, 10 sailings and 10 shifting’s planned for the week

Current active ship repairs

While there is still a backlog of containers, the normalization of operations should reduce the backlog and have cargo flowing smoothly in the next few weeks.
