Winter Storm Gail Port Closures
Winter Storm Gail - the first large scale storm of the season - is set to hit the Northeast Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasters are predicting a wet heavy snow that may lead to power outages and travel difficulties. For the hardest hit areas, there could be up to 24 inches of snow accumulation. Due to this inclement weather event, many ports along the Eastern seaboard are halting operations Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. Please see the below port updates:
New York/New Jersey
All terminals at port NY/NJ will be CLOSING gates today, Wednesday, 12/16 at 3:00pm in order to ensure truck traffic is safely out of the terminal before the worst of the storm hits. Vessel operations will also halt at this time. Terminal gates and vessel operations will remain closed through Thursday, 12/17.
Maryland
In Maryland, Ports America Chesapeake will close at 3:45pm Wednesday and will have a delayed opening at 8am on Thursday morning.
Philadelphia
No official closures announced. Port encourages all customers to contact individual terminals regarding potential closings and delays.
Boston
Conley Terminal in Boston has announced that all operations will continue as usual until further notice.
Additionally, Norfolk Southern published an announcement stating that they are also preparing for the storm, and for customers to expect travel delays of 24-48 hours in impacted areas.
