Ports Prepare for Winter Storm

The impending arrival of the winter storm system that hit Texas earlier this week has East Coast ports preparing for the hazardous conditions. The power outages in Texas have caused logistics operations to come to a stand-still, and Houston port remains closed today for all operations. With record cold temperatures and millions of people still without power in Texas, many East Coast businesses are preemptively announcing closures and delays. Please find the below port updates due to this winter storm: 

Houston: Due to lack of power and water, Port Houston public terminals and truck offices will be closed Wednesday, February 17. This includes the Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminals and Turning Basin Terminal. Cargo Bay Road and Ramp Road 6 will remain open at Turning Basin terminal for our stevedores and tenants.

Baltimore: Due to the impending winter storm, all Ports America Chesapeake terminal operations will be CLOSED on Thursday, February 18th. The ICTF (rail) will be open for limited service. February 18th will be a terminal free day for containers still within their free time.

Philadelphia: Due to the impending winter storm, Packer Avenue Marine Terminal will be closed on Thursday, February 18th, 2021.

NY/NJ: APMT PEB will be closed Thu. 2/18 due to the impending snowstorm schedule to hit the area early in the morning. Vessel ops. will stop at 05:00AM on Thu. 2/18. Gate and Vessel Ops. plans for Thu. 2/18 PM and Fri. 2/19 will be communicated on Thu. 2/18 early afternoon.

These closures could cause even further congestion and delays to already-congested terminals. We recommend allowing for additional time in your supply chain, and preparing for potential increased costs. As always, we will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as available.
