ILA Halts Contract Talks
Yesterday the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) announced they have halted talks with USMX (the representatives of the East Coast marine terminals) due to what the ILA considers to be violations of their existing agreement surrounding automation at EC terminals. While talks had previously been running smoothly, the ILA now stated that they will not return to negotiations until this current dispute on automation is rectified.
While the impact of the negotiation halt remains to be seen, there is still time for the parties to come to an agreeable solution before the current contract expiration on September 30, 2024. We are monitoring this situation closely and will provide updates as they become available.
