Our offices in Spain have informed us that a meeting took place between Spain's Ministry of Infrastructures and the longshoremen unions earlier today. Unfortunately they were unable to reach an agreement, and, as a result, the longshoremen have confirmed the days of their strike announced for February 20th, 22nd and 24th.
Winter Storm Niko is expected to hit the Northeast Wednesday night and continue through the day Thursday. Philadelphia, New York, and Boston are all expected to receive between 4-12 inches of snow and high winds. At this time Philadelphia Port has announced no closures. However, the Port of NY/NJ and Port of Boston have both sent out notices of closures and delays that can be found below.
Our offices in Spain have recently advised us of issues occurring at the ports of Barcelona and Valencia. Specifically, the longshoremen at main terminals have slowed down their productivity, causing vessel operations delays as well as long wait times to pick up/deliver containers at the terminals. Now, there has been an official announcement of a Stevedoring Strike that will affect all the Spanish ports on February 20th, 22nd, and 24th.
