Dock Fire at the Port of Los Angeles

Because of a dock fire that occurred yesterday, many terminals at the Port of Los Angeles closed early last night and have stayed closed today. Currently, only a few terminals at the Port of Long Beach are open – ITS, PCT, and Pier A.

Additionally, being that the wharf is coated with creosote—a tar-based protectant—the danger of hazardous air quality exists. Several area schools have been closed, and residents of San Pedro have been asked to stay inside and refrain from using their air conditioners. Therefore, the availability of longshore labor at affected terminals may also be limited.

Notice of Pass Closure and Customs Strike

The pass connecting Chile and Argentina closed yesterday due to inclement weather. Unfortunately, the bad weather conditions are predicted to remain until this Friday.
Additionally, the Argentinian Customs just announced that they will be conducting a strike beginning tomorrow, September 24th, and concluding Sunday, September 28th. Customs employees are requesting salary increases from the Argentinian government.

Customs Strike in Argentina

Argentinean Customs is shut down today as Customs officials have gone on strike for the rest of the day and tomorrow. As it currently stands, operations are to resume Monday as usual.

Chilean Customs Strike Called Off

The Chilean Customs Authorities and the Government have reached an agreement, and the strike that was originally scheduled to take place today and tomorrow has been called off. Fortunately, Customs is operating today as usual.
